His girlfriend dumped him, unable to bear his workaholic lifestyle, and entered a relationship with his assistant instead. įollowing the tournament, Lei returned to work once more. Lei was unsure why Heihachi had sought him out, but attended the tournament nonetheless. Heihachi asked Lei to participate in the King of Iron Fist Tournament 3. During his investigations, Lei was visited by Heihachi Mishima, who had regained control of the Mishima Zaibatsu at the close of the King of Iron Fist Tournament 2. More than a decade and a half after the King of Iron Fist Tournament 2, Lei was investigating the mysterious disappearances of martial artists across the world. Lei was placed on an investigation into the Hong Kong drug trade, during which time he discovered that an International Police Organization officer, Bryan Fury, had connections with drug dealers. He did not investigate the matter further, instead returning to his usual work. After the tournament, Bruce was involved in another plane crash reported to have killed all onboard however, Lei suspected that the Mishima Zaibatsu had staged the supposed accident, and that Bruce had survived. During the tournament, he defeated Bruce, who had been taken in by the Mishima Zaibatsu. Lei entered the King of Iron Fist Tournament 2 to confront Kazuya about the Zaibatsu’s Mafia connections. Lei picked up where his partner left off on their investigation into the International Mafia’s money laundering activities and discovered that the organization had connections to Kazuya Mishima of the Mishima Zaibatsu, even deploying an accountant to deliver documents to Kazuya on the doomed plane Lei's partner was killed on.

Prior to the King of Iron Fist Tournament 2, Lei’s partner was killed when a fight involving himself and a contract killer targeting Bruce Irvin broke out on a plane, causing it to crash. Lei Wulong was the Hong Kong International Police Force’s number one detective.
